Watford Weather – July 2017 Statistics

This was certainly a month of two halves, July started with hot temperatures and ended cooler and wetter and practically autumnal. Mid month there was some spectacular thunder storms across the south. It was also a country of 2 halves with the north not having much summery weather than compared to the south.

UK Stats

The CET still ended up above average by 0.7c at 16.8c which still means that every month this year is above the long term average, will it continue into August. For the official stats the highest temperature in the UK was at Heathrow with 32.2c on the 6th. On the 1st the lowest temperature was recorded of 0.1c at Altnaharra. The highest rain fall in 24 hours was 79mm which fell on 31st at Okehampton in Devon. Finally on the 28th a 71mph gust was recorded at the Needles in the Isle of Wight.

In summing up it was a warmer than average month, wetter than average and predominately lots of low pressure in the north. In the south there was lots of high pressure till 20th.

Watford Stats

Overall the highest temperature I recorded in Watford was 32.4c, seems like a long time ago as it feels like autumn now. It was a wet month although most of the rain occurred in a few days. There was an abundance of high pressure with most of the low pressure systems going across Scotland. Keeping us with more of a continental influence at the beginning of the month.

Looking ahead to August

The current poor weather will continue into August but there are signs of warming up by the 3rd week but don’t hold your breath. This could be the first month that is below average this year.
