It was a very early start on Saturday morning for a tour of the newly refurbished National Army Museum. The 3 year project to redevelop the museum cost £23.75 million and it now can’t be missed from the Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea.
It was reopened in April and has a much better glass frontage to entice the public in. The museum is a leading authority on the history of the British Army and holds over 2000 objects. It was originally opened in 1960 by Royal Charter and its focus is telling the story of British Army, the personal experiences of the soldiers and demonstrating the role of the army and its relevance today.
The galleries are spread over 5 floors and are mostly interactive and suitable for all ages. They aim to “inspire, challenge, educate and entertain” and they certainly do that.
The 5 galleries are Soldier, Army, Battle, Society & Insight. Also an exhibition called War Paint: Brushes with Conflict which is temporarily there. fabulous pieces of art.
Below are a selection of photographs taken on the tour. You can find the links to more photographs and to find out more about the museum below.
The museum also has a cafe which has lovely comfortable seating, the food is tasty and at reasonable prices.
There is also a gift shop with some fab gifts. If you would like to visit the museum the easiest way is via Sloane Square tube station and it is around a 10 minute walk.
Many thanks to Igerslondon / SuttonPR & the National Army Museum for setting up the tour.
