Watford Weather – October Statistics

October is one of the most colourful months of the year and it has seemed this year its been exceptional. Even more spectacular than previous years, this could be down to the late changing of the leaves at the end of the month. Always my favourite month to go mushroom hunting and I managed to spot some of the illusive red ones, like the one below in . This month there has also been some amazing sunsets, hope you all managed to view some in your area.

UK Stats

Over the UK it has been an average month with CET at 10.6c which is bang on the long term average. 26.5c was the highest temperature in the UK at Donna Nook (Lincolnshire) on the 13th. The lowest recorded was at St Harmon (Powys) in Wales with a minimum of -8.6c on the 30th. The wettest place was with an amazing 158.9mm of rain in 24 hours at Libanus (Powys), as you can imagine there was lots of flooding in south Wales on the 13th. The highest wind gust was at Capel Curig (Gwynedd)  also on Wales on the 12th with 86mph. At Tomnavoulin (Morayshire) in Scotland there was the first significant snow with 6cm depth.

The highest temperature I recorded in the month 24.2c on the 10th with only one air frost on the 30th with -1.6c. On the 12th the night was very warm with a minimum of 16.5c. Mostly its been a mild month with lots of wet spells. Total rain for the month was 56.7mm making it just above the long term average. Half of the rain 23.1mm fell in one day on the 14th.

The computer models are suggesting a mild month with brief cold spells, though this will be mostly sunny crisp days with some fog. Longer term in the last few weeks of the month their maybe a northerly spell with some wintry weather especially in the north.
