BBC Gardeners World, Autumn Fair – 1st till 3rd
The Autumn Fair takes place 10am – 5pm from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 September 2023 in the grounds of English Heritage’s Audley End House and Gardens, Saffron Walden, Essex.

GDIF 2023 will bring together UK and international artists in a ground-breaking outdoor theatre, performance, art, dance and circus programme in iconic public spaces across London.

Watford Market Lates – 1st

Creative Mile is planning its third year to celebrate the creativity that, like the mighty River Thames, flows right through the heart of Brentford, West London, combining Artists, Museums and Art Centres.

Camberwell Fair, Camberwell Green – 2nd
Camberwell Fair will be returning on Saturday, 2nd September 12-8:30 pm at our old home of Camberwell Green for a day of amazing live music with influences from around the world, DJs, mask making, an independent market and food and drink stalls, all completely free entry.

Black On The Square, Trafalgar Square – 2nd
Celebrate Black culture and creativity with music, spoken word and dance at Black on the Square, brought to you by the Mayor of London. Immerse yourself in the vitality and originality of London’s Black culture and creativity. Music at the Bandstand, Watford – 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th
Situated near the Cafe in the Park, every weekend during September, it plays host to a jam-packed programme of FREE live shows, playing everything from jazz to ukulele – and, of course, lots of traditional brass bands for you to enjoy.  What better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon!

Photographic Walk in Cassiobury Park Nature Reserve, Watford – 6th
Take a guided walk through Cassiobury Park Nature Reserve led by Andrew Lalchan (local photographer); we will explore early autumn in the park with the changing leaves and fungi.

Star trails in Cassiobury Park – 8th
Have you ever wanted to do Star Trails of the night sky, well, this is your chance. We will be taking shots of the stars in a sequence to make a star trail. Clear skies are needed for this; the event will move to Saturday or Sunday if it’s cloudy.

London Fashion Week, September 2023 – 15th to 19th
Discover the schedule for London Fashion Week, taking place from Friday 15th to Tuesday 19th September 2023. Highlights include BFC NEWGEN designers, 16Arlington, Burberry, JW Anderson, KNWLS, Molly Goddard, Richard Quinn, ROKSANDA & Simone Rocha.

The first UK exhibition dedicated to the work of French couturière, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, charting the establishment of the House of CHANEL and the evolution of her iconic design style, which continues to influence the way women dress today.

REBEL: 30 Years of London Fashion, Design Museum – 16th till 11th February 2024
Opening to coincide with London Fashion Week, this landmark exhibition will be one of the most wide-ranging surveys of contemporary fashion culture ever staged in the UK. It will offer an unprecedented look at how careers in fashion are forged and the multitude of opportunities London’s fashion scene offers young creatives.

London Design Festival – 16th to 24th
London Design Festival celebrates and promotes the city as a design capital on the global stage. London Design Festival was launched by Sir John Sorrell CBE and Ben Evans CBE in 2003. Building on London’s existing design activity, their concept was to create an annual event that would promote the city’s creativity, drawing in the country’s greatest thinkers, practitioners, retailers and educators to deliver an unmissable celebration of design.

Frieze Sculpture 2023 – 20th till 29th October
Curated by Fatoş Üstek for the first time, Frieze Sculpture returns to The Regent’s Park from 20 September–29 October, featuring new work by Ayşe Erkmen, Ghada Amer and Hank Willis Thomas, among many others.

Colour Walk Meetup at Spitalfields Market – 21st
It is an informal gathering of colourful, creative souls who meet, dressed in their finest, to walk, talk and strut their stuff. Excellent for photography.

The Missing Thread at Somerset House – 21st till 7th Jan 2024
This autumn, Somerset House explores the stories of Black British fashion in a major new exhibition, The Missing Thread, curated by the Black Oriented Legacy Development Agency (BOLD). Spanning from the 1970s to the present day, The Missing Thread charts the shifting landscape of Black British culture and the unique contribution it has made to Britain’s rich design history.

London Design Fair – 21st till 24th
London Design Fair returns in 2023 to its home at The Truman Brewery, located just off the iconic Brick Lane. The Truman Brewery holds the perfect aesthetic backdrop for the eclectic mix of cutting-edge, contemporary design on display.

The Watford Fringe Festival is an extraordinary live festival full of great theatre, music, comedy, dance, magic and family fun-filled shows! 2023s festival brings over 85 performances at 11 venues across Watford.

Strawberry Hill House Flower Festival – 22nd till 24th
The Strawberry Hill House Flower Festival, curated by Leigh Chappell & Janne Ford, returns for a fifth successive year this September with a spectacular showcase of the very best of British-grown flowers, foam-free sustainable floristry, and the design creativity of the UK’s leading floral designers.

Light painting in Cassiobury Park, Watford, with model – 23rd
After sunset, we will use the park as our canvas, starting with the Lion King Tree and working our way down to the river. This workshop will be around 2 hours long*. Josè and I will be running the workshop. British Art Fair, Saatchi Gallery – 28th
The Fair for Modern and Contemporary British Art. Top dealers from London and across the UK gather at Saatchi Gallery once a year to present the very best Modern British and Contemporary art, tell visitors all about the artist’s work, and give specialist advice on collecting. Galleries are installed throughout all three storeys of Saatchi Gallery, London, creating an elegant museum-like atmosphere for the fair.

Sarah Lucas Happy Gas, Tate Britain – 28th
A British artist’s brash and tender exploration of what makes us human. Sarah Lucas is internationally celebrated for her bold and provocative use of materials and imagery. Using ordinary objects in unexpected ways, she has consistently challenged our understanding of sex, class and gender over the last four decades.

Hilma Af Klint & Piet Mondrian Forms Of Life at Tate Modern – till 3rd September
This is a unique chance to discover the visionary work of Swedish painter Hilma af Klint and experience Dutch painter Piet Mondrian’s influential art in a new light. Although they never met, af Klint and Mondrian both invented their own languages of abstract art rooted in nature. At the heart of both of their artistic journeys was a shared desire to understand the forces behind life on earth.

BLACK VENUS: Reclaiming Black Women in Visual Culture at Somerset House – till 24th September
Somerset House is delighted to present BLACK VENUS, an exhibition that examines the historical representation and shifting legacy of Black women in visual culture. Curated by Aindrea Emelife, BLACK VENUS brings together the work of 18 Black women and non-binary artists to explore the othering, fetishisation and reclamation of narratives around Black femininity.

The Rossettis at Tate Britain – till 24th Sept
This exhibition follows the romance and radicalism of the Rossetti generation through and beyond the Pre-Raphaelite years: Dante Gabriel, Christina and Elizabeth (née Siddal). Visitors will get to experience world-renowned works from their boundary-pushing careers. The Rossettis’ approach to art, love and lifestyles is considered revolutionary, and this will be thoroughly explored in an immersive show using spoken poetry, drawings, paintings, photography, design and more.

Style & Society: Dressing the Georgians at Buckingham Palace – till 8th October
This exhibition explores what the Georgians wore, from the practical dress of laundry maids to the glittering gowns worn at court. Discover what fashion can tell us about life in the 18th century, a revolutionary period of trade, travel and technology that fuelled fashion trends across all levels of society. Delve into the Georgians’ style story and get up close to magnificent paintings, prints and drawings by artists including Gainsborough, Zoffany and Hogarth, as well as luxurious textiles, sparkling jewellery, and a range of accessories from snuff boxes to swords.
