Gilles Peterson – World Wide Awards 2015

Its that time of the year when the excellent Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide awards comes around again. It doesn’t feel like a year has gone past when I was last at Koko. The awards took place in London on the 17th January 2015.

This is the 10th year of the awards and my 5th one. Gilles Peterson is a radio DJ on BBC radio 6 with his weekly show on Saturday afternoons. Bringing you world music that you don’t hear on any other stations. I have been listening since the 80’s in the pirate radio station era.

This year has seen lots of new music with a return to the more jazzy feel after last years mostly fast beats rap dance music.
The show kicked off with an excellent set from Adrian Younge playing with Bilal and special guest Laetitie Sadier from Stereolab.

Ninja Tune’s Dorian Concept played a few tracks from there latest album.

Near the end came Anushka and up and coming star, she should be big in 2015.

The highlight of the show for me was Taylor McFerrin, Clap! Clap! & Anushka.
