Totally Thames Festival 2024 – 1st till 30th
Celebrating the River Thames with arts events, active adventures, environmental initiatives, heritage and education programmes.

Proud Portraits Thank You Reception at St Mary’s Church This is an opportunity for us to thank the amazing organisations and people who have made ‘Proud Portraits on Tour’ possible in beautiful surroundings with the exhibition in situ. Drinks and light refreshments are available.

London Mural Festival – 5th to 29th
Returning to the capital’s streets this September with over 100 murals to explore, from some of the world’s best street artists. Themed around ‘connection’, the festival will bring together thousands of artists, communities, and visitors to celebrate London’s diverse people and places.

Batman Unmasked London at Covent Garden – 6th till TBA
Batman is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, and DC and Warner Bros aren’t letting a significant milestone like that pass by quietly. After a stop in Manchester this summer, Batman Unmasked is an exhibition featuring an epic collection of Batman memorabilia.

Heritage Open Days – 6th till 15th
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest community-led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every September, it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community, and history. Stories are told, traditions are explored, and histories are brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences—and it’s all FREE.

The Art Car Boot Fair, Kings Cross – 7th
Be an art collector for the afternoon and get your hands on some amazing artworks, all for record low prices. Plus, enjoy live acts, DJs and performances, as well as pop-up bars and food.

Light painting in Cassiobury Park, Watford, with model – 7th
After sunset, we will use the park as our canvas, starting with the Lion King Tree and working our way down to the river.

Camden Inspire is a celebration of Camden’s creative souls, who come together for a weekend of performance, art, and creative workshops.

Croxfest is a yearly music festival in Croxley Green held on The Green. It is free for all to attend – enjoy a varied line-up of acts in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Classic Boat Festival – 7th to 8th
Be prepared for a truly magical floating spectacle in central London this autumn. The annual St Katharine Docks Classic Boat Festival is a boating extravaganza not to be missed and will see over 50 beautiful vintage and exquisitely preserved vessels assembled in the historic central and west basins.

Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair – 8th
Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair returns on Sunday, 8th September, with The Vintage Collections ahead of London Fashion Week. They’ll be a buzz in town as fashionistas start flocking in from all over the globe to London’s most celebrated event. So be sure to pop this show into your schedule and pick up a piece of fashion history with styles spanning over 100 years of fashion. Many of which inspire the catwalks today.

British Science Festival – 11th to 15th
British Science Festival – which this year features science content creator and social media sensation Big Manny, as well as former Olympic athletes Dame Katherine Grainger, Diane Modahl, and Kelly Sotherton.

Target Queen – Hayward Gallery – 12th
A new commission by British-Indian artist, Bharti Kher features, supersized bindis, interacting playfully with the iconic architecture of the Hayward Gallery. In Target Queen, Bharti Kher references the bindi, which is worn by South Asian women as a cultural and spiritual marker representing the third eye.

Battersea Power Station will offer its visitors the opportunity to experience the wonders of South East Asian culture first hand at the upcoming ‘celebrASIA’ festival.

London Fashion Week – 12th till 17th
It’s the 40th anniversary of London Fashion Week, which will celebrate London’s position as a world-leading cultural capital and its creative community. LFW40 will spotlight London’s creative community and the city as a global cultural hub, as well as its role in nurturing emerging talent and the next generation of visionary creatives. There will be lots of shows across London.

London Design Festival – 14th to 22nd
London Design Festival celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world. The 22nd edition will take place from 14 to 22 September 2024. Many events take place across London at various locations.

Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers at National Gallery – 14th till 19th January 2025
Be blown away by Van Gogh’s most spectacular paintings in our once-in-a-century exhibition. Walk with a pair of lovers beneath a starry night. Look up at swirling clouds and cypress trees swaying in the wind. Stay a little while in Van Gogh’s favourite park, the ‘Poet’s Garden’, or under a shady tree in Saint-Rémy.

A London-wide festival that opens up and celebrates the city’s architecture, unique places and neighbourhoods, with free open days and events across all 33 London boroughs.

Photographic Walk in Cassiobury Park Nature Reserve – 18th
Take a guided walk through Cassiobury Park Nature Reserve led by Andrew Lalchan (a local photographer). We will explore the park in early autumn, with its changing leaves and early fungi.

Jan Kaláb Solo Show at HOFA – 19th till 2nd October
Jan Kaláb returns to London with his much-anticipated solo exhibition from September 19 to October 2. A pioneer of the urban art scene, Kaláb’s work bridges the gap between graffiti, street art, and gallery art. Known for his vibrant colours, geometric forms, and dynamic compositions, his art is a continuous experiment, paying homage to his graffiti roots.

Colour Walk Meetup at Spitalfields Market – 19th
It is an informal gathering of colourful, creative souls who meet, dressed in their finest, to walk, talk, and strut their stuff. It is excellent for photography.

Turner Prize 2024 at Tate Britain – 24th till 16th February 2025
Pio Abad, Claudette Johnson, Jasleen Kaur, and Delaine Le Bas are the four artists shortlisted for the 2024 Turner Prize. They will showcase their eclectic work at Tate Britain from 25 September 2024, and the winner will be announced on 3 December 2024.

Michael Craig-Martin at Royal Acadamy – 25th till 10th December
A key figure in British art, Michael Craig-Martin is one of his generation’s most influential artists and teachers. Since coming to prominence in the late 1960s, he has moved between sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, prints and digital works, creating a body of work that has fused elements from pop, minimalism and conceptual art.

Creative Encounters: Colours at Southbank Centre – 25th
September sees visual artist and colour therapist Momtaz Begum-Hossain lead a weaving workshop where she guides us to reflect on the meanings of colour. There’s also the chance to hear live music by fresh, up-and-coming London talent Asha Gold.

Silk Roads Exhibition at British Museum – 26th till 23rd February 2025
Camel caravans crossing desert dunes, merchants trading silks and spices at bazaars – these images come to mind when we think of the Silk Roads. But the reality goes far beyond this. Rather than a single trade route from East to West, the Silk Roads comprised overlapping networks linking communities across Asia, Africa and Europe, East Asia to Britain and Scandinavia to Madagascar.

Monet and London. Views of the Thames at Courtauld Institute of Art – 27th till 19th January 2025
Claude Monet (1840—1926) is world-renowned as the leading figure of French Impressionism, the movement that changed the course of modern art. Less known is the fact that some of Monet’s most remarkable Impressionist paintings were made not in France but in London. They depict extraordinary views of the Thames, which had never been seen before. It has an evocative atmosphere, mysterious light, and radiant colour.

Judy Chicago: Revelations at Serpentine North – till 1st September 2024
Serpentine presents the first major interdisciplinary, immersive institutional exhibition in London of Judy Chicago. Focused on drawing, it will combine new and little-seen works and preparatory studies alongside audio, visual and new technology materials.

Tavares Strachan: There Is Light Somewhere at Hayward Gallery – till 1st September 2024
This is the first mid-career survey dedicated to the work of New York-based, Bahamian artist Tavares Strachan (born in 1979). The exhibition showcases the remarkably inventive ways in which Strachan has celebrated unsung explorers and cultural trailblazers, inviting audiences to engage with overlooked characters whose stories represent and illuminate histories hidden by bias.

Yoko Ono: ‘Music of the Mind’ at Tate Britain – till 1st September 2024
Delve into the powerful, participatory work of artist and activist Yoko Ono. Yoko Ono is a trailblazer of early conceptual and participatory art, film and performance, a celebrated musician, and a formidable campaigner for world peace. Developing her practice in the United States, Japan and the UK, ideas are central to her art, often expressed in poetic, humorous, profound and radical ways.

London’s leading festival of free outdoor theatre and performing arts and, in the words of The Guardian, makes an “unrivalled contribution to the happiness of the people of London”. GDIF is committed to breaking new ground in outdoor performance and raising the ambition, quality and diversity of outdoor work produced in the UK.

Enzo Mari at the Design Museum – till 8th September 2024
This major exhibition will celebrate the life and work of one of the greatest Italian designers of the 20th century, Enzo Mari, whose designs have inspired generations of creatives worldwide. Mari was also an artist, teacher, theorist, and more. During his prolific career, he created countless enduring and timeless designs, filling the homes and streets of the Milanese and beyond.

Design Discoveries: Towards a DESIGN MUSEUM JAPAN – till 8th September 2024
While Japan is synonymous with exemplary design, it doesn’t yet have a dedicated national museum. This exhibition brings together seven significant designers, from filmmakers to architects, to consider what they would put into a permanent collection of design treasures. Their personal responses capture Japan’s regional diversity and 10,000 years of history.

Tropical Modernism: Architecture and Independence – till 22nd September 2024
Tropical Modernism was an architectural style developed in the hot, humid conditions of West Africa in the 1940s. After independence, India and Ghana adopted the style as a symbol of modernity and progressiveness, distinct from colonial culture.

Marc Quinn: Light into Life at Kew Gardens – till 29th September 2024
Explore a new exhibition from leading contemporary artist Marc Quinn at Kew Gardens this spring and summer. Light into Life presents 17 stunning stainless steel and bronze sculptures around the Gardens and in the Temperate House alongside a presentation of Quinn’s new and existing paintings, drawings, sculptures and evocative frozen works in the Shirley Sherwood Gallery.

Tate Britain: Now You See Us – till 13 October 2024
Spanning 400 years, this exhibition follows women on their journeys to becoming professional artists. From Tudor times to the First World War, artists such as Mary Beale, Angelica Kauffman, Elizabeth Butler and Laura Knight paved a new artistic path for generations of women. They challenged what it meant to be a working woman of the time by going against society’s expectations – having commercial careers as artists and participating in public exhibitions.

Expressionists: Kandinsky at Tate Modern – till 20th October 2024
Explore the groundbreaking work of a circle of friends and close collaborators known as The Blue Rider. In the early 20th century they came together to form, in their own words, ‘a union of various countries to serve one purpose’ – to transform modern art. The artists rallied around Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter to experiment with colour, sound and light, creating bold and vibrant art.

Serpentine Pavilion, London – till 27th October 2024
Titled Archipelagic Void, the Pavilion is composed of five ‘islands’; each structure is unique in size, height and form. Built predominantly in timber, these structures are supported by identical footings that adapt to the slightly sloping topography of the site.

A major exhibition exploring the design evolution of one of the world’s most famous dolls: Barbie®. Journey into the Barbie universe and discover over 250 remarkable objects, with rare, unique and innovative dolls dating from 1959 to the present day.

Welcome to my August edition, as the last month of summer unfolds, I’m writing this from the south Devon coast in the UK on a nice relaxing holiday. A heatwave is going on, which is a welcome relief from the cool summer so far.

Welcome to your July edition of my newsletter! June has been a very busy month, with over 26,000 photos shot at over 30 events. Even though the weather hadn’t been great at the beginning of the month, summer started at the end.

This year is flying fast, and June has so many events around London. One of my highlights would be the Graduate Fashion Show and the Japanese Emperor state visit near the end of the month. Plus, there is a shoot with two ballerinas in Shoreditch and a lavender shoot with a couple of models.
