Queens 90th birthday – Trooping the Colour

1000s of people congregated on the Mall for the annual Trooping of the colour for the Queens birthday.

This year for the 90th birthday alot more people were in London. The atmosphere was fun and friendly with people from all over the country.

This was my first trooping the colour I had been meaning to go for years. But made the effort this year.

Trooping the Colour started in 1748 to celebrate the official birthday of the sovereign.

The queen travels down the Mall in a procession to horse guards parade. She marches with the Household cavalry which is the official body guard of the queen.

Music is provided by the bands of the foot guards.

After they return to Buckingham palace a 41 gun salute is done St James Park.

Then a fly past by the RAF and the red arrows.

Below are some of the photos I took on the day. More can be found on my Flickr.
