Christmas lights turned on in Watford

The Christmas lights was switched on at the Intu shopping centre in Watford on Thursday 15th November. Radio one DJ introduced the  crowd to Watford footballers, Adrian Mariappa & Tom Cleverly and 2 year old local hero Arthur Carpenter who turned on the lights.

The night started with the cast from Jack & the Beanstalk pantomime which is playing at the Watford Palace Theatre mingling with the crowd. Plus singers from Watford Grammar Girls School, Jigsaw Arts and the Watford Academy for Performing Arts entertaining the shoppers culminating in the lights being turned on at 7pm. With a display of excellent fireworks over the Intu shopping centre.

With the additional part to the Intu shopping centre being nearly finished, Watford town centre is looking like a fabulous place to visit and not avoid. Look out for, in the early new year a blog about the design of the buildings. Sign up to my newsletter to hear the latest news.

November Events 2025

Welcome to the November issue of my newsletter. The year has certainly flown by. And now it’s nearly Christmas; this is the month when fireworks and Christmas lights are switched on. There are plenty of those in the events listed below. One of my favourite times of the year.

100 Years of Film: From Sons of the Sea to a Guinness World Record

From stormtroopers to Bridgerton gowns, the Old Royal Naval College became a real-life movie set as fans and filmmakers celebrated 100 years of British cinema with Elstree Studios. I captured the record-breaking day where 874 people made film history — and revisited a century of stories shot on these iconic grounds.
